19 Provisional Discoveries Announced for AIASC Phase I

Provisional Discoveries

SPACE India and International Astronomical Search Collaboration are proud to declare 19 Provisional discoveries in AIASC Phase I. Participants from SPACE coordinated AIASC, in Phase I have achieved an unprecedented 19 Provisional Discoveries in the All India Asteroid Search Campaign 2016, Under IASC and AIASC programme, students got access to Pan-STARRS telescope data through which they looked for Asteroids.

The discoveries multiplied tremendously this year due to Pan Starrstelescope’s being used to survey new areas of the sky, state of the art CCD cameras, higher FOV, ability to see fainter objects.

Congratulations to the participating Students from India for this unprecedented feat, a major achievement at the student level, in the 7th year of AIASC conducted by SPACE.

AIASC2016 has an achievement of 1367 Preliminary Discoveries, and 19 Provisional Discoveries so far.

For 2016, the campaign is been divided into 2 phases each lasting a month. A total number of 45 teams, trained to search asteroids in the Main Belt Asteroid through advanced data analysis and specially designed software by SPACE, have achieved a remarkable number of 483 Preliminary Discoveries of Asteroids in Phase 1 and 910 in Phase II till now of AIASC 2016 and hoping to have Provisional Discoveries of Asteroids to add more golden feathers in its cap.
