Global Astronomy Month – Celebrating Astronomy worldwide

Global Astronomy month (GAM) is organized by SPACE in India every year in April with an the international organization, Astronomers Without Borders (AWB), aiming to unite enthusiasts worldwide in celebrating Astronomy following AWB’s motto – One People, One Sky. SPACE conducts a variety of astronomy programmes for students and the public during this month to partner with GAM in creating interest in Astronomy.

SPACE proposes a bouquet of GAM and general astronomy programmes to associated schools. Schools conduct events in categories such as Observing events with Global Star Parties and ‘SUNDay’, Virtual online programmes, AstroArts and competitions. Several students have won prizes in GAM Astropoetry and Astroart competition internationally. Many students contributed stunning photos in Astrophotography. Several schools log in to Virtual telescope observations. SPACE has also initiated awards to schools for maximum participation, most innovative event and most number of events which are given annually. This year also, SPACE India will conduct astronomy events in April to popularize astronomy in their associated schools.

Schools are requested to register all the events with SPACE a week before the conduction date and send an event report within 3 days of completion of the event so SPACE can publicize the event on GAM and elsewhere.

The compiled report of Global Astronomy Month for the whole month can be sent by . Out of the gamut of activities that AWB proposed this year, SPACE has selected activities under different categories for our client schools.
