SpaceX Falcon 9 Rocket Exploded on Launch Pad during a Propellant Fill Operation


SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket exploded yesterday September 1 at launch pad during a propellant fill operation. The rocket was to launch the AMOS-6 communication satellite on September 3. The satellite and the launcher were destroyed. No one was hurt in the explosion.

The AMOS-6 satellite was intended to provide internet coverage to large parts of east, west and south africa was secured at the top of the rocket at the time of explosion.

AMOS-6 satellite was to be Facebook’s first satellite. Mark Zukerburg, the founder of Facebook posted that he was “deeply disappointed”.

A  video of the explosion shows a fireball engulfing the rocket standing on the pad. The explosion was “heard and felt for miles around” according to a news article about the event

 The cause of the explosion is still unknown according to Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX.
