Delhi’s biggest inter-school debate competition

108 students of 54 schools of Delhi-NCR has participated to express their views on Astronomy explorations during VOICE YOUR OPINION, an Inter-School Debate Competition on August 24, 2016 in collaboration with Sachdeva Global School, Dwarka for Delhi students on the topic, ‘Is investing Public capital on space science exploration justifiable? Could the money be better spent?’

The participants were judged by the panel a panel of judges on the following parameter, Organization and Clarity, Use of Arguments, Use of Examples and Facts, Oratory skills and Presentation Style.  Panel of judges had the eminent presence of Prof. Inder Mohan Kapahy, Commission Member, University Grants Commission (UGC)Dr. T.R. Seshadri, Department of Physics & Astrophysics, University of Delhi; Ms. Sumana Dutta Sarkar, Head of School, Sachdeva Global School, Dwarka; Mr. CB Devgun, President-SPACE Foundation and Mr. Sachin Bahmba, Chairman & Managing Director, SPACE Group.

In motion of the topic, students supported the cause to discover new life on other planets and setting up new settlements there to explore the universe. The research in Astronomy and Space Science can help countries to know future natural disasters which can cause a massive harm to the society and habitants on earth. On the contrary, students stated in against the motion that the capital can be invested in other better resources such as eradicating poverty, development of infrastructure, providing employment on Earth rather than exploring the universe.

What if we could not able to save our life on Earth, then who will move out in space to find life? We better have to save our planets and our living habitants and not spend crores of money in developing scientific gadgets and finding a new life.

By participating in the competition, SPACE hope to create an amicable environment for the participants and confine the attention of the society to invest their capital investment in space exploration is justifiable or not.
